The Sale of Rural Plots and the Planning Consequences

  • Published: 19 April 2004
  • Site: Planning, building and the environment

Summary

The sub-division of agricultural land into small plots for sale, usually on the internet, creates problems for communities and planning control. This letter is to remind Chief Planning Officers of potential remedies already available, and to emphasise the need to act swiftly and pre-emptively where possible.

Note: The above publication was issued by our former department, the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister (ODPM). ODPM became Communities and Local Government (DCLG) on 5 May 2006 - all references in the text to ODPM now refer to Communities and Local Government.
