This guide, published in March 2000, is aimed principally at
local authorities. It provides detailed guidance on the making,
management and enforcement of tree preservation orders (TPOs).
Trees in conservation areas and trees and development are also
covered.
Following important changes to TPO procedures, which came
into effect on 1 October 2008, we have published an addendum to
this guide, together with a revised Model TPO. You can download
